EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS/VALUES EDUCATION OUTREACH
RICARDO VANCE, USA and ERIC MANUEL, Manila, Philippines.
"ONE, arrives at the perfect time! For more than four thousand years the re-telling of Moses has inspired the three great world monotheisms: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. Why at a time like this would re-telling Moses as a contemporary hip-hop musical be so compelling? The answer lies in our musical’s title"ONE."
In just a brief time, hip-hop has transformed the youth culture of our planet by globally united young people across race, class, language, nationality and geographic boundaries. Hip-hop has given youth a powerful new artistic expression that never existed prior to 1975. This "new expression" not only uses music, but also uses graffiti, dance, clothing styles and poetry--even the spontaneous, improvised, rhythmic, free-flow expression of verse.
ONE lifts our spiritual vision of a new international community by using this new universal art form to carry a timeless message of "honesty."
Sincerely,
Ricardo Vance and Eric Manuel
We are currently developing a study guide to the musical. We’ll pilot the guide in a “values education outreach” to the two largest high schools in the world: Batasan Hills National High School and Rizal High, both in Manila. Focusing on the themes in ONE --of anti-corruption, anti-human trafficking, and anti-drugs-- we are designing an opportunity for these students to see the production. A follow-up contest will then have students create “ways to inspire their peers to repair the world” --using either graffiti art, poetry, or rap. The pilot, once perfected, could then be replicated at any high school any where in the world and expand the spiritual values in the musical (or of a ONE movie).
The YesPinoy Foundation, Manila Philippines is now researching ways to use ONE in a values educational outreach throughout The Philippines.
